Tallahassee, FL – Residents across Florida’s Big Bend, southeast Alabama, and southwest Georgia are bracing for freezing temperatures and biting wind chills through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a freeze warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. EST Friday and will resume from midnight Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Sub-freezing temperatures are expected to dip as low as 22°F. Meanwhile, a cold weather advisory warns of wind chills reaching 18°F this morning and 20°F on Saturday morning.
The affected regions include Tallahassee, portions of the Florida Panhandle, southern Georgia, and parts of southeast Alabama. Frost and freeze conditions could harm sensitive vegetation, crops, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Officials urge residents to wear layered clothing, hats, and gloves to prevent hypothermia during outdoor activities. Ensure pets are sheltered and water pipes are insulated. Portable heaters should be used with caution to avoid fire hazards.
Frost protection measures, such as covering tender plants and draining sprinkler systems, are recommended. Residents are also encouraged to check on elderly neighbors and those without reliable heat sources.
The advisory is expected to lift after 9 a.m. Saturday as temperatures gradually rise.
