San Antonio, Texas – Drivers across south-central Texas are dealing with dangerous visibility early today as dense fog blankets the Coastal Plains, creating hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service office in Austin–San Antonio, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for the Coastal Plains until mid-morning. Visibilities may drop below one-quarter mile at times, especially along rural roadways and near low-lying areas. Officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights while traveling through fog.

The thickest fog is impacting communities south and east of San Antonio, including areas near Pleasanton, Karnes City, Goliad, and Cuero. Portions of major routes such as U.S. Highway 281, Interstate 37, and U.S. Highway 183 could see sudden visibility changes, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions.

Once the fog lifts later this morning, conditions improve quickly. Skies will turn partly sunny this afternoon with above-normal warmth spreading across the region. High temperatures are expected to range from the upper 70s to mid-80s, with the warmest readings across the southern Edwards Plateau and Rio Grande Plains.

While travel conditions improve later today, officials stress caution through the morning hours. The fog advisory expires by mid-morning, but drivers should remain alert for lingering pockets of low visibility before conditions fully clear.
