Corpus Christi, TX – A Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory are in effect for South Texas from 10 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday, with sub-freezing temperatures expected.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Corpus Christi, temperatures could drop as low as 30 degrees, while wind chills may reach 20 degrees. Affected areas include Victoria, Laredo, Alice, and Kingsville. The cold spell could damage crops, outdoor plumbing, and pose risks to outdoor animals.
Residents should protect sensitive plants, insulate exposed pipes, and bring pets indoors. Proper precautions should be taken for outdoor animals, ensuring dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Officials also urge the safe use of space heaters to prevent fire hazards.
Although South Texas rarely experiences freezing conditions, officials warn that prolonged exposure to the cold can cause hypothermia. Warmer temperatures are expected to return by the weekend.
