Brownsville, TX – A freeze warning remains in effect for parts of South Texas until 8 a.m. Friday, with temperatures dropping as low as 29°F. A cold weather advisory also remains active until 6 p.m., bringing wind chills as low as 25°F.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Brownsville, the freeze warning affects Brooks, Jim Hogg, and Zapata counties, while the cold weather advisory includes Inland Cameron, Inland Kenedy, Inland Willacy, Northern Hidalgo, Southern Hidalgo, and Starr counties.

Officials warn that the combination of freezing temperatures and cold wind chills could lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Residents are urged to wear warm clothing, protect sensitive plants, and ensure pets and livestock have adequate shelter. Outdoor plumbing should also be insulated to prevent damage.

The cold snap is expected to ease by Friday evening, but residents should continue to take precautions. NWS advises checking on elderly neighbors and using heating devices safely to prevent fire hazards.
