Miami, Florida – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across South Florida this afternoon, with West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Fort Lauderdale facing the highest threat for damaging winds and large hail through early evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a slight risk (level 2 out of 5) has been issued for the east coast metro region, including Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. The window of concern runs until approximately 8 p.m. Monday, with the most intense storms likely between 2 and 6 p.m.
Cities along the I-95 corridor could experience 1-inch hail and wind gusts strong enough to knock out power or down tree limbs. Belle Glade, Clewiston, and inland areas are under a marginal risk (level 1), where isolated severe storms and localized flooding remain possible. Though rare, a brief tornado can’t be ruled out.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during storms, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid unnecessary travel. Mobile home residents and those in flood-prone zones should remain especially alert.
This is the first severe thunderstorm risk of May for the region. Additional alerts may be issued if storm conditions intensify this evening.
