Miami, Fla. – Evening plans across South Florida could be interrupted as scattered showers and thunderstorms continue developing inland, with some storms expected to drift back toward the Atlantic coast metro areas before the night is over.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, thunderstorms will continue forming through the evening across the interior of South Florida before some cells move east toward communities including Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Additional showers and thunderstorms are also expected to develop overnight, primarily across the Gulf Coast and southwest Florida.
The strongest storms may produce frequent lightning, brief heavy downpours and gusty winds, leading to reduced visibility on roadways and localized ponding in poor drainage areas. Motorists traveling along Interstates 75 and 95, Florida’s Turnpike and other major roadways should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions if thunderstorms move overhead.
Residents heading outdoors this evening should monitor radar and move indoors immediately if thunder is heard. Boaters should also be prepared to return to shore quickly, as thunderstorms can develop rapidly and create hazardous conditions over nearby waters.
Overnight temperatures will remain warm and humid, with lows around 81 degrees in Miami, 82 in Fort Lauderdale, 79 in West Palm Beach and 81 in Naples. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to be possible overnight, especially across the Gulf Coast, and additional weather updates may be issued if stronger storms develop.
