South Florida, FL – A cold weather advisory will be in effect Thursday from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. for Glades and Hendry counties. Officials warn of wind chills dipping as low as 32°F, making it feel significantly colder in the early morning hours.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami, cooler temperatures are forecasted across all of South Florida overnight. Breezy winds will amplify the chill, causing residents to bundle up for one of the region’s coldest mornings this season.
The advisory primarily impacts inland areas, including LaBelle and Belle Glade, where wind chill values will reach freezing levels. Residents in urban areas like Miami and Fort Lauderdale will also experience chilly conditions, with wind chill values in the low 40s.
Meteorologists suggest wearing layered clothing to stay warm and urge precautions for outdoor activities. Pets and vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly, should stay indoors during the advisory hours.
The NWS predicts conditions will gradually improve after 9 a.m., with temperatures climbing back into the mid-50s to low 60s by late morning. However, overnight cooling may continue into Friday, extending South Florida’s brief brush with winter.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the NWS and local authorities to stay prepared.
