Aberdeen, SD – A winter storm continues to wreak havoc across South Dakota, with snow and ice causing hazardous road conditions in several counties. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that remains in effect until 7 PM CDT Wednesday, affecting areas including Brown, Grant, Marshall, Roberts, and Codington counties.

The storm is expected to bring significant mixed precipitation, with snow accumulations ranging from 2 to 7 inches in various regions. In addition, ice accumulation of up to two-tenths of an inch is forecast, with gusty winds reaching up to 40 mph. These conditions are expected to create dangerously slick roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses.

According to the National Weather Service, the hazardous conditions will likely affect commutes throughout Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Travelers are urged to exercise extreme caution or delay their plans if possible. The storm could also lead to power outages and tree damage, especially in areas with heavier ice accumulation.

Motorists are advised to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, including a flashlight, food, and water. To monitor real-time road conditions, travelers can call 511 or visit 511mn.org.
