Sioux Falls, SD – Winds reaching up to 50 mph, combined with snow showers, are creating hazardous travel conditions across South Dakota today, especially along I-90. A Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 6 p.m., with reduced visibility and slick roads expected.

The advisory warns of northwest winds sustained at 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph likely to cause blowing and drifting snow, particularly in open areas. Snowfall accumulation will range from a dusting to 1-2 inches along and north of I-90, potentially worsening driving conditions. Motorists should use extra caution, secure loose outdoor objects, and avoid travel if possible, especially in high-profile vehicles.

The forecast shows temperatures falling from a high of 32°F this morning to 19°F by afternoon. Blustery conditions will continue into the evening, with overnight lows dropping to 6°F. Looking ahead, calmer weather is expected Friday, though temperatures will remain cold with a high of 18°F.

Residents are advised to check road conditions and delay non-essential travel. Blowing snow could reduce visibility below one mile, making travel treacherous at times.
