Aberdeen, SD – Residents and drivers along I-29 are urged to prepare for strong winds today as a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. The National Weather Service warns that gusts up to 50 mph could make travel hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

According to the National Weather Service, northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph are expected to pick up this morning and last through the evening. The advisory impacts much of northeast South Dakota and west-central Minnesota, including cities such as Aberdeen, Watertown, and Milbank.

Unsecured objects may be blown around, and brief power outages are possible. Those traveling along I-29 or working outdoors should exercise caution. For safety, avoid parking vehicles near trees or power lines.

The weather is expected to calm overnight, but cooler temperatures will persist. Highs for the weekend are forecasted in the mid-30s, with mostly sunny skies Saturday and Sunday.
