Sioux Falls, SD – Subzero wind chills and light snow flurries are gripping the area Friday, but a gradual warm-up is on the horizon. Residents should brace for bitter cold today, with highs ranging from 12 to 22 degrees, before more comfortable conditions emerge by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, flurries are expected near I-29 this evening, with temperatures dropping to 7–15 degrees overnight. Wind chill values as low as -15 degrees will make outdoor activity dangerous early Friday. Residents are urged to limit exposure, bundle up, and keep an eye on vulnerable individuals.

Saturday will offer relief, with sunny skies and highs climbing to 23–38 degrees. Overnight temperatures remain cold at 17–25 degrees. By Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise further, reaching 33–48 degrees with partly cloudy skies, marking a significant break from the current cold snap.

Looking into next week, highs near 45 degrees are forecast for Monday, with no hazardous weather expected through Thursday. This warming trend offers an opportunity for outdoor plans, but residents should remain cautious of icy roads and sidewalks from overnight freezes.

Motorists traveling along I-29 or local roads should exercise caution, especially tonight as flurries reduce visibility and create slick conditions. Prepare for the weekend by clearing snow early, and monitor forecasts for updates as conditions evolve.
