Sioux Falls, SD – Residents across South Dakota, western Iowa, and southwestern Minnesota are facing dangerously cold wind chills Thursday morning, with values plunging to 35 degrees below zero.
According to the NWS in Sioux Falls, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 AM CST for cities including Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Yankton, and Sioux City. Wind chills this low can cause frostbite in less than 10 minutes if skin is exposed.
Residents are advised to wear insulated clothing, cover exposed skin, and limit time outdoors. Pet owners should also ensure animals are kept indoors.
Although temperatures will rise slightly during the day, wind chills will remain in the single digits below zero through the morning hours.
