Aberdeen, SD – The National Weather Service has issued multiple Winter Weather Advisories for portions of eastern and central South Dakota through early Wednesday morning, with additional wintry conditions expected midweek.

For northeast South Dakota, including Watertown, Webster, Sisseton, and Big Stone City, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters expect snow and patchy blowing snow with wind gusts up to 60 mph. While snowfall will stay light—around one inch—reduced visibility and icy spots could make travel hazardous.

Farther south and west, including Pierre, Mobridge, Gettysburg, and Fort Pierre, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect Wednesday evening through Thursday morning for a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Up to one-tenth inch of ice is possible, leading to slick roads and difficult driving conditions during the Thursday morning commute.

Officials warn that the combination of strong winds and drifting snow could also cause minor tree damage and temporary visibility reductions, especially in open rural areas.

Residents are urged to drive cautiously, secure outdoor items, and check road conditions through 511SD or 511MN before traveling.
