Sioux Falls, S.D. – Dense fog could make Friday morning travel treacherous along Interstate 29, with drivers urged to slow down and use headlights. Visibility may drop quickly in spots, especially east of the highway.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, patchy fog is expected overnight and could linger through early Friday. Conditions should improve by mid-morning, but drivers on rural roads and low-lying areas should plan for reduced visibility.

The bigger concern arrives over the weekend. Scattered thunderstorms are possible beginning Saturday, with a stronger system moving in Sunday afternoon. Forecasters place storm chances at 30 to 50 percent, with an isolated severe storm possible mainly west of I-29.

Sioux Falls and surrounding communities could see heavy downpours and gusty winds late Sunday into Sunday night. Outdoor events and travel may be disrupted, so residents should monitor weather updates closely. Keep phones charged, and avoid unnecessary driving during heavier storms.

Temperatures will stay warm through Saturday, with highs climbing into the upper 80s. Conditions will shift early next week as cooler, less humid air arrives. By Tuesday, highs may only reach the upper 70s, bringing more fall-like conditions across eastern South Dakota.

Hazardous weather statements remain possible into early next week, especially if storms strengthen.
