Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will target Sioux Falls Tuesday, June 3rd, threatening afternoon travel and outdoor summer plans across eastern South Dakota.

According to the National Weather Service, showers will intensify late Tuesday morning, with thunderstorms becoming more widespread by early afternoon. Gusty winds up to 15 mph and localized downpours may impact visibility and cause minor street flooding, particularly near SD Highway 42 and I-229. Rain chances exceed 60% through mid-afternoon, with some storms capable of brief heavy rainfall and lightning.

Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and avoid flooded intersections. If possible, postpone errands and commutes during peak rain hours. Emergency kits and device chargers should be kept handy in case of power outages.

Tuesday night skies will clear slightly, offering cooler and calmer weather with lows dipping near 49°F.

Looking ahead, Wednesday, June 4th brings a brief break with increasing clouds and dry conditions, but storm chances return Thursday and continue through the weekend. Daily highs will remain in the mid-70s, offering a mild start to June, but frequent afternoon storms could interfere with early summer events and travel.
