Sioux Falls, SD – Heavy rain will impact much of South Dakota today, particularly near and east of Interstate 29, with wet conditions continuing through this afternoon. Residents in the affected areas should prepare for potentially slick roads and lower visibility, especially during peak travel times. Although rain will subside by tonight, drivers should exercise caution and remain alert on wet roadways.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, today’s temperatures are expected to range from 45 to 52 degrees. Rainfall amounts could be highest along and east of I-29, where totals may reach up to 1 inch in some areas. South Dakota’s James Valley could see less than a tenth of an inch, while parts of southwestern Minnesota may accumulate between 0.3 and 0.7 inches. Showers are anticipated to end by mid-afternoon, allowing clouds to decrease gradually into the evening.
Looking ahead, the forecast promises clearer skies and warmer temperatures. On Thursday, sunshine is expected with highs reaching between 48 and 57 degrees. Winds will be light, making for pleasant conditions. Friday should see partly cloudy skies with highs around 51-58 degrees. The weekend looks even brighter, with sunny conditions and highs near 59 on Saturday, providing a welcome break from the recent rain.
While dry weather will likely persist into the weekend, rain could return by early next week. Residents should stay updated with local forecasts and check road conditions if planning travel, especially in eastern regions.
