Philadelphia, PA – Frigid temperatures and an impending tidal flood threat are gripping Pennsylvania as the region braces for its coldest night of the season. Residents along the coastline should prepare for possible coastal flooding Thursday morning and into Friday, with the risk heightened by the upcoming full moon.

According to the National Weather Service’s Philadelphia/Mount Holly office, a severe cold front has brought an unusually low air mass over the region. Temperatures tonight are expected to dip into the low 30s, marking the coldest weather of the season so far. The agency warns that the convergence of cold air and high tidal levels may lead to minor to moderate coastal flooding, especially in communities near the Delaware Bay and Atlantic coastlines.

This weather pattern is expected to persist, with daytime highs only reaching around 50 degrees on Thursday and a high chance of showers into Thursday night. By Friday, temperatures may climb slightly to a high of 56 degrees, but coastal areas should remain alert as high morning tides continue to pose flooding risks.

The extended forecast for Philadelphia anticipates clearer skies and gradually warming temperatures over the weekend, with highs in the low 60s by Sunday. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and prepare for potential disruptions in affected areas. Coastal residents should ensure all valuables are secured and stay informed through local advisories.
