Sioux Falls, SD – South Dakota is set to experience a mix of wildfire smoke and high temperatures through the end of the week. A thick layer of wildfire smoke aloft will persist over the area until Friday afternoon, according to the US National Weather Service Sioux Falls South Dakota. The air quality at the surface Wednesday evening was in the Moderate category and is expected to continue through Thursday.

According to the weather service, people sensitive to PM2.5 pollutants should limit their outdoor activities. The air quality is anticipated to improve by Friday evening as stronger south winds push the smoke away from the region.

Warm weather will also continue through the weekend, with highs reaching the mid-80s to mid-90s and periods of breeziness. Increasing humidity will lead to heat indexes in the mid to upper 90s over the weekend. Daily highs are projected to be 88°F on Thursday, 91°F on Friday, and around 89°F on Saturday and Sunday. Low chances of showers and storms are forecasted, with the highest chance on Saturday night into Sunday.
