Rapid City, SD – Residents in northwestern South Dakota are facing dangerous cold as an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Rapid City.

Wind chills in Harding, Perkins, and Ziebach counties, including Buffalo, Lemmon, and Dupree, could plummet to -45°F during the overnight and morning hours. Frostbite can occur in as little as 10 minutes on exposed skin.

Officials advise dressing in multiple layers, avoiding unnecessary outdoor exposure, and ensuring pets have proper shelter.
