Hastings, NE – The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for portions of south-central Nebraska, in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday until 11 a.m. Sunday, as widespread fog develops overnight.
According to forecasters, visibility may drop to as low as one-quarter mile or less, especially in areas south and west of the Tri-Cities, including Holdrege, Minden, and Red Cloud. The fog is expected to be most persistent during the late-night and early-morning hours, gradually improving by midday Sunday.
The NWS warns drivers to use extreme caution while traveling, reduce speeds, and leave extra distance between vehicles. Patchy fog with slightly better visibility could extend beyond the advisory zone, but dense fog pockets will be common across southwestern portions of the region.
The advisory follows several mornings of similar fog across central Nebraska as cool, calm conditions persist under a moist air mass. Visibility could fluctuate quickly, particularly along rural highways and low-lying areas.
Drivers planning early Sunday travel are encouraged to check local conditions before heading out and allow additional time to reach their destinations safely.
