Wilmington, NC – A line of severe thunderstorms could sweep through southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina late Wednesday, bringing the threat of damaging wind gusts and isolated hail from Surf City to Darlington.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a slow-moving cold front is expected to stall over the region, enhancing shower and thunderstorm activity primarily after 4 p.m. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather has been issued, with the strongest storms likely to develop in the late afternoon and taper off by 10 p.m.

Cities along the I-95 corridor—including Lumberton, Florence, and Conway—could see brief but intense wind gusts strong enough to down limbs or cause minor power outages. Travel may be hazardous during peak evening commute hours, especially where heavy downpours reduce visibility or pond on roads.

Residents in Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, and surrounding coastal areas should remain alert for changing conditions and consider securing loose outdoor items. Charge devices now and stay tuned to local alerts, as the storm system may prompt additional warnings.

This is the first notable round of spring thunderstorms for the area. Updates will continue throughout the evening if threats intensify.
