Columbia, SC – A Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect across central South Carolina until 4 p.m. today as strong winds sweep through the region. Gusts of up to 35 mph are expected, especially near lakes, creating hazardous conditions for small watercraft. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and exercise caution while boating or traveling.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Columbia, the cold front driving these winds will bring a sharp drop in temperatures overnight. Lows will plunge into the upper teens and mid-20s by daybreak Thursday, marking one of the coldest nights of the season so far.

Thursday will see sunny skies, but the chill lingers with a high near 46°F. Winds will diminish to 3–6 mph, offering some relief from today’s gusty conditions. Friday night is expected to be even colder, with lows around 21°F.

Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures will rebound slightly. Saturday will bring sunny skies and a high of 52°F, followed by mostly clear conditions and lows near 29°F. Sunday promises another sunny day with highs in the low 60s, offering a pleasant end to the weekend.

Drivers on I-20 and I-26 should remain alert for sudden wind gusts today, particularly in open areas. Boaters on Lake Murray and other nearby lakes are advised to stay off the water until conditions improve late this afternoon.

Stay updated by checking local forecasts regularly. Prepare for freezing temperatures by protecting outdoor pipes, plants, and pets overnight.
