Columbia, SC – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of South Carolina, with freezing rain expected to create hazardous conditions from late Wednesday morning into early Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, the advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday. Chesterfield, Kershaw, Lee, Northern Lancaster, and Southern Lancaster counties are expected to see light ice accumulation, primarily on roads, bridges, and sidewalks.

Slippery conditions could impact the Wednesday evening commute, especially in cities such as Lancaster, Camden, and Cheraw. Residents are advised to drive cautiously, slow down, and prepare for possible power outages due to ice buildup on power lines.

Temperatures will hover near freezing, increasing the risk of ice formation on untreated surfaces. Motorists should check road conditions before traveling by dialing 511.

Officials urge residents to stay updated on weather conditions and take necessary precautions. The advisory will remain in effect until early Thursday morning.
