South Carolina – Heavy fog shrouds Columbia and much of the Midlands early Sunday, with visibility near zero in some areas and slick roads along I-20, I-26, and U.S. 378. The National Weather Service in Columbia issued a Dense Fog Advisory until 9 a.m., warning drivers to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra following distance.
At 5 a.m., temperatures hover around 40°F, and calm winds are keeping moisture trapped near the surface — a setup for dangerously low visibility through sunrise. Patchy frost may also develop on bridges and overpasses.
By mid-morning, fog will gradually lift, giving way to mostly cloudy skies and a mild high near 52°F. Calm conditions linger through the day, making it a decent window for errands or outdoor prep before a light rain chance arrives late Monday.
Monday brings a 40% chance of scattered rain showers, mainly in the afternoon and evening, as a weak front moves across the state. Expect highs near 49°F and patchy fog to redevelop late Monday night.
Looking ahead, Tuesday turns sunny but cool, followed by a gradual warm-up into midweek with highs pushing the low 60s. Long-range models hint that a stronger cold front could arrive after December 11, dropping temperatures sharply again across the Southeast as winter weather intensifies in the North.
