Chesterfield, SC – Residents in Chesterfield, Fairfield, and nearby counties face a freeze warning overnight into early Friday morning.
The National Weather Service announced sub-freezing temperatures, dropping as low as 32 degrees, starting at 3 a.m. until 9 a.m. Friday. A lake wind advisory also remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday, with west winds reaching up to 20 mph and gusts hitting 35 mph. These winds are expected to create hazardous conditions on area lakes, especially for small craft.
According to the advisory, freezing temperatures may kill unprotected plants and damage outdoor plumbing. Residents are urged to wrap or drain water pipes or allow faucets to drip slowly. Boaters should exercise extreme caution due to rough waves.
Temperatures are expected to rise by mid-morning Friday, alleviating freeze conditions. However, officials recommend continued vigilance in protecting sensitive vegetation and securing outdoor items vulnerable to high winds.
Prepare now to minimize potential damage to property and vegetation.
