Newport, NC – A freeze warning has been issued for eastern North Carolina, signaling sub-freezing temperatures overnight. Residents in affected counties should take precautions to protect sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing.
The National Weather Service announced Thursday that temperatures will drop as low as 31 degrees between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday. The warning covers Beaufort, Washington, Jones, and Northern Craven counties, among others. Frost and freezing conditions pose a risk to unprotected vegetation and outdoor water systems.
The weather service advises residents to cover tender plants or bring them indoors. Garden hoses and exposed pipes should be insulated to prevent potential damage from freezing.
Additional warnings were issued for Martin, Pitt, Greene, and neighboring counties with similar expected conditions. Temperatures in these areas will reach as low as 31 degrees during the early morning hours.
The alert marks one of the season’s first widespread freeze warnings. Officials encourage residents to monitor weather updates and take immediate precautions to minimize potential damage.
