Dorchester County, SC – A fatal collision between a car and a side-by-side ATV left one person dead Saturday evening in Dorchester County. The crash occurred at 4:50 p.m. on U.S. 178 near Bryant Road, about two miles west of Harleyville.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling east on U.S. 178 when the accident took place. The ATV and the car collided, causing the ATV to veer off the road and overturn. The car, in turn, swerved off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
The ATV driver, identified by the Dorchester County Coroner as 48-year-old John O’Neal Way of Harleyville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The car’s driver, who was alone in the vehicle, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. No further details have been released at this time.
