Grand Junction, CO – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds to western Colorado starting Monday morning, creating hazardous travel conditions across multiple mountain regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from Monday at 11 a.m. through Tuesday at 5 p.m. for areas including the Park Mountains, Flat Tops, Gore and Elk Mountains, Grand and Battlement Mesas, and the West Elk and Sawatch Mountains. These areas can expect between 4 to 8 inches of snow, with localized amounts reaching up to a foot. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, further reducing visibility and increasing the risk of dangerous road conditions.
A separate Winter Weather Advisory is also in place for the Northwest and Southwest San Juan Mountains, as well as the Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide, from 5 a.m. Monday until 11 a.m. Tuesday. These areas, along with elevations above 8,500 feet, are also forecast to receive 4 to 8 inches of snow and strong winds up to 45 mph.
In Utah, the Eastern Uinta Mountains are under the same advisory period, with similar snowfall and wind conditions expected.
Travelers should exercise caution as roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become snow-packed and icy. Authorities advise motorists to reduce speeds and check Colorado’s 511 road conditions hotline for the latest updates.
Residents and visitors in these affected areas should prepare for difficult travel and rapidly changing weather conditions through Tuesday.
