Glasgow, MT – The National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings for parts of northeastern Montana due to ice jams causing rising waters along the Poplar and Yellowstone rivers. The warnings are in effect until Monday evening for Daniels and Richland counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, an ice jam on the Poplar River near the international boundary has led to flash flooding in North Central Daniels County. The affected areas include mainly rural locations along the East Fork Poplar River, Coal Creek, and Poplar River.
In Richland County, emergency management officials have reported an ice jam on the Yellowstone River near Sidney. This blockage is causing minor flooding, which is expected to continue through Monday morning. Nearby areas such as Wooley and surrounding streams, including Bennie Peer Creek and Lone Tree Creek, are also at risk.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and exercise extreme caution, especially at night when flood dangers are harder to detect. The National Weather Service advises reporting any observed flooding to local emergency services to assist in ongoing monitoring efforts.
Authorities recommend staying updated on weather alerts and taking necessary precautions to protect property and personal safety as the situation develops.
