Binghamton, NY – Heavy lake effect snow is blanketing parts of upstate New York, with accumulations up to 10 inches expected in localized areas. A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect through 4 p.m. today, covering Madison, Northern Oneida, Onondaga, and Southern Oneida Counties.
According to the National Weather Service, the most persistent snow bands will produce the highest totals, especially in western Oneida County. Blowing snow is significantly reducing visibility, and officials warn that travel could be very difficult or even impossible in some areas.
Motorists are urged to check current road conditions by calling 511 and avoid unnecessary travel until the storm subsides. Snowfall totals will vary greatly depending on the location, with conditions potentially shifting within just a few miles.
The extended forecast suggests a slight chance of snow on Monday with a high near 24°F, followed by calmer conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, overnight lows will dip into the low teens, posing risks for icy roads.
By Thursday, another chance of snow showers may impact the region, but temperatures will climb slightly, offering some relief from the frigid start to the week.
Residents in affected areas should remain prepared for rapidly changing weather and stay updated on the latest forecasts. Keep emergency kits in vehicles and ensure proper winter gear when venturing out.
