Denver, CO – A winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and hazardous conditions to Colorado starting tonight, impacting the northern mountains, foothills, and urban corridors. Drivers on I-25 and nearby roadways should prepare for slick surfaces and low visibility into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin late Friday evening, with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches expected in lower elevations and up to 6 inches in the foothills. Gusty winds, reaching speeds of up to 60 mph in certain areas, may worsen visibility, particularly on highways like I-70.
Saturday will see continued snowfall in higher elevations, with lighter snow expected in the Denver metro area. Temperatures will remain below freezing, with a high of 23°F on Saturday and a low of 10°F by nightfall.
Those planning to travel should avoid non-essential trips, allow extra time, and carry winter weather kits. Residents are also urged to stay informed via updates on weather.gov or local news outlets.
The extended forecast shows clearer conditions starting Sunday, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 45°F early next week. However, nighttime lows will dip into the teens, so pipes and outdoor systems should remain winterized.
