Montgomery, AL – A winter storm warning remains in effect for southern Alabama, with snow accumulations of one to three inches expected by early Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham has urged residents to prepare for hazardous travel conditions and potential disruptions.

According to the NWS, the warning covers Barbour, Bullock, Chambers, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, Russell, and Tallapoosa counties. It will remain in effect until 6 a.m. CST on Wednesday. Officials warn that bridges and overpasses could become especially slick as temperatures drop overnight, creating dangerous road conditions.

Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel and keep emergency kits in vehicles, including flashlights, food, and water. Those traveling should exercise caution, particularly during the Tuesday evening commute, as road conditions could rapidly deteriorate.

The northern and central parts of Alabama have seen advisory cancellations, but the southern regions are still under alert. Even light snowfall combined with frigid temperatures poses risks to infrastructure and travel safety.

Stay updated with the latest developments through local weather channels and prepare for delays or closures as conditions persist.
