Tulsa, OK – Freezing conditions and dangerous wind chills are set to hit Oklahoma starting late Sunday, with temperatures rapidly dropping below freezing overnight. Gusts of up to 50 mph will accompany a strong cold front sweeping across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tulsa, wind chills will range between 7°F and -7°F Monday morning, creating hazardous outdoor conditions. Snow flurries could leave roads slick, particularly near the Oklahoma-Kansas border. Highways like I-44 and US-75 may see freezing spots that could cause dangerous driving conditions. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and use caution on bridges and overpasses, which are prone to ice.

The NWS reports that snowfall accumulation will likely remain under one inch, primarily near the Oklahoma-Kansas state line. However, minor accumulations are possible across northeast Oklahoma, particularly in Osage County. Winds will subside slightly by Monday evening, but temperatures will remain bitterly cold, with highs only reaching 27°F Monday afternoon.

The cold wave is expected to last through midweek, with a slight warming trend by Wednesday. Another potential winter storm could arrive late in the week. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts closely and ensure they are prepared for the cold.

Take precautions to protect pets and livestock, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, and dress in layers if heading outdoors. Keep space heaters and generators safely operated indoors.
