Wilmington, NC – Residents across southeastern North Carolina should prepare for a wet and windy start to the week as showers move into the region on Monday. Temperatures will climb to a high of 68 degrees before winds pick up, creating potentially hazardous driving conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to develop by late morning, becoming steadier through the afternoon. Winds will reach speeds of 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph in some areas. Drivers along major roadways, including U.S. Highway 17 and Interstate 40, should exercise caution, particularly during peak travel hours.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly cloudy, with a slight chance of rain after midnight and lows near 41 degrees. After Monday’s rain, drier conditions are forecast, with temperatures dipping significantly overnight to the low 30s.

Looking ahead, Tuesday through Thursday will feature sunny skies and cooler conditions, with highs in the mid-40s and overnight lows in the low 20s. The week will close with a slight warm-up by Friday, but rain chances will return heading into the weekend.

Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items ahead of Monday’s gusty winds and allow extra travel time if commuting during showers. Stay updated on weather changes by checking local forecasts and alerts.
