Snohomish, WA – A Snohomish County sheriff’s sergeant is being credited with saving a man’s life early Wednesday morning after rescuing him from a burning pickup truck along State Route 9.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Charboneau responded around 5:37 a.m. on December 3 to a crash in the 6300 block of SR 9, where a pickup had collided with a tree. When he arrived, the truck was fully engulfed in flames with the driver still inside and unresponsive.

Deputies said the fire was concentrated in the engine area, with flames shooting 10 to 15 feet high and spreading toward the windshield and passenger compartment. Recognizing the danger, Sgt. Charboneau attempted to reach the driver, who remained unconscious as the fire intensified.

Deputies used extinguishers to slow the flames while Sgt. Charboneau pulled the driver from the burning vehicle. Once the man was safely removed, deputies provided care until fire crews and medics arrived on scene.

Authorities have not released the driver’s identity or condition. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
