Will County, IL – Nineteen Smokey Bear paintings will be displayed across five Will County nature sites this winter, celebrating the iconic wildfire prevention mascot’s legacy.
The exhibit, “Smokey Bear: The Rudy Wendelin Collection,” features reproductions of artworks created between 1977 and 1995. It will run from Friday, Jan. 17, through Sunday, March 2. The Forest Preserve District of Will County and Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie collaborated to host the exhibit.
The paintings will be displayed at the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon, Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville, Plum Creek Nature Center in Beecher, Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet, and Midewin. Viewing hours vary by location.
Complementary events include a Smokey Bear trivia night, art studio sessions, and a meet-and-greet with Smokey Bear and Willy Woodchuck. Visitors can participate in a Smokey-themed challenge for a chance to win prizes.
