Gary, IN – Far Northwest Indiana is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued by the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center. The watch is effective from Sunday afternoon until early Monday morning, warning of scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, isolated large hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and the potential for a tornado.
The NWS warns that thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage and intensity this evening. Initially isolated hail-producing storms may evolve into a more significant threat for damaging winds as the evening progresses. A landspout tornado or two is also possible. Residents in the watch area should remain alert and prepared for severe weather conditions.
According to the NWS, the watch area extends approximately 60 miles north and south of a line from 45 miles south-southwest of Mason City, Iowa, to 55 miles south of Racine, Wisconsin. Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
