Indianapolis, IN – A standoff involving an armed suspect firing at officers unfolded Wednesday night, prompting an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Critical Incident Response Team investigation.
According to IMPD, officers initially responded to a home in the 200 block of South Gladstone Avenue around 10 p.m. after a female caller reported being held at gunpoint. Upon arrival, officers met with the woman, who claimed the suspect threatened to kill her if she attempted to leave. The IMPD SWAT team and negotiators were called in after officers secured a perimeter.
Despite repeated attempts to negotiate, the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Al McGhee, allegedly fired multiple shots at officers. After six hours of de-escalation attempts involving tear gas and flashbangs, the suspect surrendered. No injuries were reported.
McGhee faces charges of criminal recklessness, intimidation with a deadly weapon, and pointing a firearm, pending final charges from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
