Sioux Falls, SD – Travelers across South Dakota should prepare for hazardous conditions today as freezing rain and patchy fog continue east of I-29. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective until noon Saturday, warning of slippery roads and limited visibility due to lingering fog.

According to the National Weather Service, additional ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are possible through Saturday afternoon. Untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses may become dangerously slick. Motorists are urged to check weather and road conditions before driving, slow down, and allow extra time for travel.

Saturday’s high will hover around 29 degrees with freezing rain expected to taper off by midday. Patchy fog will persist into the evening, especially between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m., reducing visibility to two miles or less. Low temperatures will dip to 23 degrees overnight with calm east-northeast winds.

Looking ahead, Sunday brings slightly improved conditions with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 38 degrees. South winds will pick up to 15 mph, with gusts reaching 25 mph. Monday will see sunny skies and a high near 38 degrees before another potential weather system develops midweek.

Drivers should remain vigilant through the weekend, especially in areas south of Highway 60 and east of the James River. For updated road conditions, call 511 or visit weather.gov/siouxfalls.
