Shreveport, LA – A heat advisory is in effect for Shreveport and surrounding areas today, with daytime high temperatures expected to reach the mid-90s to near 100 degrees. Combined with high humidity, this will create heat indices ranging from 105 to 109 degrees, posing significant health risks. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. CDT today.

According to the NWS Shreveport office, residents are urged to take precautions, including drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned environments, and avoiding prolonged outdoor activity during peak heat hours. The advisory covers the entire region, including areas like Texarkana, El Dorado, and Monroe, where temperatures are also expected to be dangerously high.

Looking ahead, the forecast shows no relief in sight, with temperatures expected to remain in the upper 90s and potentially reaching 100 degrees over the next several days. Wednesday’s forecast calls for a high of 99 degrees, followed by continued scorching conditions through the weekend. The NWS warns that the persistent heat wave could extend into next week, with elevated risks of heat-related illnesses.

Local authorities advise residents to check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those without access to air conditioning, and to be mindful of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The extended heat wave underscores the importance of staying informed and prepared as temperatures continue to climb across Louisiana.
