Shorewood, IL – A motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Brook Forest Avenue (Route 59) and Sunrise Drive left two people injured Wednesday morning, one critically.
According to the Shorewood Police Department, officers were called to the scene around 9:40 a.m. and discovered two vehicles had collided, with three occupants involved. The Troy Fire Protection District transported the victims to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Joliet.
Preliminary findings indicate that one vehicle, traveling eastbound on Sunrise Drive, crossed the southbound lanes of Brook Forest Avenue and entered the northbound lanes, where it was struck by a northbound vehicle.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit was called in to investigate. Authorities have closed Brook Forest Avenue until the investigation is completed.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
