Crete Township, IL – A recent surge in deceptive home burglaries has prompted the Will County Sheriff’s Office to issue a warning to residents in the eastern part of the county.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, multiple incidents were reported this week in the Plum Valley and Willow Brook Estates subdivisions in Crete Township. The burglaries, identified as ruse burglaries, typically involve two individuals—one who distracts the homeowner under false pretenses while another suspect enters the home through a side or unlocked door.
Authorities say suspects often pose as utility workers, contractors, or government officials to gain the trust of residents. In the latest cases, two suspects were seen using walkie-talkies to communicate and are believed to have been driving a black Chevy SUV with black rims. Security footage from one scene captured an image of at least one person of interest, officials confirmed.
Residents are urged to remain on high alert and not open their doors to unfamiliar individuals. Law enforcement is emphasizing the importance of reporting suspicious behavior immediately.
The sheriff’s office did not report any injuries in connection to the incidents but noted that investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information related to these burglaries is encouraged to contact the Will County Sheriff’s Office directly.
