Raleigh, N.C. – A chilly blast of air moving into North Carolina Wednesday night could bring patchy frost to parts of the Piedmont and northern Coastal Plain, threatening gardens and sensitive plants.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, wind gusts of 25–35 mph Tuesday afternoon signal the arrival of cold fronts that will drop overnight temperatures into the 30s by late Wednesday. A patchy frost is possible mainly in central and northeastern parts of the state, including Durham, Rocky Mount, and Wilson.

Residents in counties such as Nash, Franklin, and Edgecombe are urged to protect vulnerable vegetation, especially in rural or low-lying areas where frost is more likely to form. Though widespread frost is not expected, localized areas may see damage if precautions aren’t taken.

This cold spell follows unseasonably warm temperatures earlier in the week, and it marks one of the colder snaps of the spring so far. The risk is highest late Wednesday into early Thursday morning.

Another advisory may be issued if conditions worsen, and residents are encouraged to stay updated and take protective steps as needed.
