Elmhurst, IL – Police responded to an armed incident at an apartment complex on 237 W. First Street Friday afternoon. Authorities urged residents to shelter in place as they managed the situation.
According to the Elmhurst Police Department, officers arrived at the complex near First and Elm Streets around 3 p.m. The incident involved an armed man inside one of the apartments. Police confirmed the situation is contained within the building.
First Street between Elm and Evergreen Streets remains closed while law enforcement addresses the matter. Police have not disclosed whether any injuries have occurred or provided updates on the man’s condition.
Residents near the complex were asked to stay indoors as a precaution. Elmhurst police advised that updates will follow as the situation unfolds.
Authorities have not indicated when the shelter-in-place directive or road closures will be lifted.
