Missoula, MT – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for western Montana as heavy mountain snow continues to create hazardous travel conditions. Snowfall is expected to persist through Monday morning, impacting major routes including Lolo Pass, Lookout Pass, and areas along Interstate 90.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations are forecasted to range between 3 to 6 inches in lower elevations, with isolated areas seeing up to 10 inches or more. Winds gusting up to 40 mph may worsen conditions, especially over higher passes. The heaviest snowfall is expected Sunday night as a cold front moves through the region.
Drivers are urged to use caution and plan for extended travel times. Closures or disruptions on infrastructure are possible, particularly during the Monday morning commute. Areas like Highway 93 from Eureka to Whitefish and Highway 12 near Lolo Pass are highlighted as particularly vulnerable to slick roads and visibility issues.
Residents should stay updated on conditions by checking local forecasts or calling 511 for road information. Travel in impacted areas should be avoided if possible to ensure safety.
