Lincoln, NE – A powerful winter storm is bearing down on southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, bringing significant snow accumulations, dangerous ice, and sub-zero wind chills. The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley has issued a Winter Storm Warning, which remains in effect through midnight Sunday night.
According to the NWS, affected areas, including Lincoln, Beatrice, Nebraska City, and Shenandoah, could see snow totals ranging from 5 to 13 inches. Ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch are also expected, alongside wind gusts reaching 35 mph. These conditions will create hazardous travel, with some roads becoming impassable.
The storm is anticipated to continue intensifying throughout the weekend. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel. If travel is unavoidable, officials recommend carrying emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water.
