Quad Cities, IA/IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop this evening, bringing a significant flash flood risk to the Quad Cities area. The National Weather Service reports that the highest coverage of storms, with a probability of 50-80%, will occur south of I-80 this evening and continue into the early overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service, these storms are expected to be slow-moving and could produce widespread heavy rainfall, leading to rapid rises in streams and creeks, flooding roads, low-lying areas, fields, and basements. There is also a threat of scattered damaging winds capable of downing tree limbs and fences. Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors when thunder roars and avoid crossing flooded roadways.

For the rest of the week, the forecast indicates more rain on Wednesday with temperatures ranging from 68°F to 87°F. Thursday will be mostly cloudy with highs around 80°F. Friday is expected to bring more rain, with a 75% chance of precipitation and temperatures between 63°F and 79°F. The weekend looks to be more pleasant, with partly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday and temperatures ranging from 61°F to 86°F. The start of next week will see cooler temperatures, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s under partly sunny skies.
