Atlanta, GA – A line of strong thunderstorms is expected to move across Georgia late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing damaging winds, possible large hail, and a brief tornado threat.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, the storms will begin around 11 p.m. Tuesday and last until 10 a.m. Wednesday. The highest threat period will be from late Tuesday night through 7 a.m. Wednesday, with areas including Atlanta, Macon, and Augusta at risk.
Wind gusts could reach up to 60 mph, and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The threat level has been categorized as a Level 2 (Slight Risk), meaning scattered severe storms are possible. Residents should secure outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages.
The storm system will move eastward throughout Wednesday morning, with improving conditions expected by midday. However, lingering rain showers and gusty winds may continue in parts of the state.
Officials advise Georgians to monitor weather alerts and have a way to receive warnings overnight. In case of a tornado warning, seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
Stay tuned for updates as this system develops.
