According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the primary threats will begin after 5 PM, with hail up to the size of golf balls and winds reaching 60 mph. The most affected area is expected to be the Devils Lake Basin. A second round of thunderstorms is forecasted to develop later tonight, bringing similar conditions to eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota through Wednesday morning.
Periods of scattered thunderstorms are expected over the next few days, with the hottest day of the week predicted for today, with heat index values in the upper 90s in the Red River Valley. Isolated severe thunderstorms could develop in the afternoon and evening, continuing through Wednesday, with quarter-sized hail and 60 mph winds as the main threats.
Wednesday’s weather outlook indicates scattered storms throughout most of the day into the evening, with morning lows between 63 and 70 degrees and highs from 83 to 89 degrees. Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a slight chance of thunderstorms in Minnesota and highs ranging from 84 to 89 degrees.
