Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service in Chicago alerts residents to severe weather conditions scheduled for Tuesday, particularly east of Interstate 55. Strong winds and possible tornadoes are in the forecast, accompanied by heavy rain of up to 2” in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service, the area east of I-55 will experience gusty winds that may exceed 45 mph, coupled with the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms early Tuesday.

The combination of these winds and the saturated ground could lead to downed tree limbs and power lines, increasing fire hazards in dry zones. Officials caution that the threat of tornadoes, although brief, should not be underestimated and appropriate safety measures should be taken. The severe weather threat appears to come earlier than usual, with conditions expected to improve as the week progresses.

Following the tumultuous weather, the region is set to experience a shift to quieter conditions. Although the temperatures are predicted to drop to cooler ranges, the respite from the severe weather will allow communities to assess any impacts from the storms. The National Weather Service encourages the public to remain informed on weather updates and take advantage of the clearer midweek period to recover and prepare for any further seasonal weather events.
